Just got "A New Beginning" today, and it can be summed up in one sentence:

This is not your Daddy's Spyro. smiley

I love the storyline, the graphics are great, the voices are terrific.
(Except David Spade as Sparx, but he's just annoying.)

Excellent game, I give it a 4 and 1/2 stars out of 5.
(The half star off...oh forget it.) wink

And we finally get an admission. ANB is NOT Spyro.

Sure, it may have a great story (which I heavily doubt), but it doesn't matter... It's not Spyro-like in any way.

Ding. You all lose.

Dead wrong, TTE.

Ok, I'll use this as an example.

The "Starfox" franchise.

I remember playing the first "Starfox" games.
"Rare" merged an N64 game they were working on, "Dinosaur Planet" with Starfox, to make "Starfox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet."

The "purists" raised a stink, but the fact is SFA is a Censored good game, very enjoyable.

The Starfox franchise went back to more of the original scenario with Starfox Assault.
With the DS Starfox game, it's now back almost completely to the original.

Likewise with Spyro, the franchise is evolving, and while the Insomniac games are good, the games afterwards (well, outside of "Enter The Dragonfly") are also good.

For their own reasons.

The only one who will "lose" is yourself, TTE for being so closed-minded and prejudiced.

Well said Archae. The star Fox example is a very good one. That series has added new members and changed over time, and remaind relevant. TTE, Another outburst and you are gone, period. Your prejudiced and jaded opinion detracts from the enjoyment of this game by others.

Thanks.

I used it as just one example.

There are others as well, Mario brothers, Sonic, Legend of Zelda, etc.

Most of the games are good, a couple mediocre or simply bad.
But the fans aren't throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

(At least AFAIK.)

Ok, some details.

Spyro himself:
His voice is terrific.
His appearance is a little odd, but still a dragon.

Sparx:
He looks totally weird.
Arms, no real antennae, and a almost-human face.
His voice, sorry David Spade fans, I don't like it.

Ignitus:
That is one kick-butt dragon!
Great appearance, voice is terrific.

Music:
EXCELLENT!

Game play:
HARD!
I don't know how you guys got through the whole game so quick!
I'm stuck in Ignitus' dojo. (So far.)

All in all, it deserves the 4 and a 1/2 stars I gave it above.

That's great to hear. Hopefully XPlay on G4 Tech Tv will do the same and give it a great rating, hey, a 3 out of 5 will do. ^^ Thanks Archae.

Sorry, but I don't consider "X-Play's" reviews to be credible.

They lean more toward giving the most violent and most difficult games the highest ratings.
(I think it's because their raters are very young, expert game-players.)

That leaves us older, fumble-finger guys and girls in the lurch.
I e-mailed the "X-Play" staff, and spelled out my gripes, months ago.
I received a quite snarky reply.
(They told me to go back to playing Monopoly on my systems.) angry

If they give ANB anything more than 3 out of 5, it'll be a miracle.
