I don't see how flaming other people's stories, art, religion(!), and culture is so popular. I mean, you might not agree with their viewpoints, but there's a thing called just letting it be! No matter what these people think, they aren't going to change them and stop the "destruction of their fandom" by making a site that flames people with poor writing skills. rolleyes

Or am I just missing the point here?

What do you guys think about this site?

Man, I love that site...

Do you laugh at MSTs? If so, what makes an MST different to GAFF? Neither of them personally attack the authors, both are just mockings of fanfics. You don't have to agree, I've read things I don't agree with, but I've also seen fics that truly were godawful posted there. In fact, a good number of the fics I have ready to MST come from there.

I mean, you might not agree with their viewpoints, but there's a thing called just letting it be!
Well, there you go. You don't have to agree with GAFF's viewpoint, but why not just let it be? It works both ways. You're not going to stop them mocking, as much as they won't stop people writing bad fanfiction.

Actually I've read people there personally attack the authors a number of times. They also flame their stories quite often, I've seen a few funny comments on certain ones, but most of it seemed to be just flaming.

I wasn't out to change them, I am letting it be...I just wanted to know what others thought of the site, and if they agreed with me.

I'm not personally against this site, since despite their bluntness they are fully within their rights not to like something and approach it the way they want to. And I've seen worse, to be honest. Often from the reviewees, never mind the reviewers.

A lot of people seem to buy into the illusion that flames are valid criticism, or that it’s okay to take pleasure from others discomfort and bad writing ability, when they’re anything but, rudeness and insults are just not on, and aren’t going to help. Nobody ever changed their mind because someone called them a rude name.

I look at it like this:

“You are an absolute freak for making Spyro into a wimpy little girl” – that is a flame, which insults the author, rather than points out a possible error in their story.

This: “Spyro’s acting freaky! He is NOT a big girl who hides from the bad guys! This is stupid!” is still a bit blunt, but is slightly more acceptable as it’s pointing out a problem in the story rather than insulting the author.

This however would be the best way to pt it (possibly including a comment at the end of your review showing you didn’t mean offence): “I’m not sure about Spyro’s ICness here. He’s normally a very brave character, so unless it’s a plot point you’re going to bring up about him finding something he’s afraid of, I really don’t see why he would run and hide from your villain. Try and make him more IC.”

Then again I’ve had some very nasty reviewers respond to my criticism (which I hope is along the lines of the last comment) threatening to block me and various other insults because they can’t take the Concrit, and that’s no better than the flamers, IMO.

I must say, thank you for posting that link, Rosy! I think I found my new favorite website. grin

Erm, okay. Not the best thing to say.

What I'm trying to say is that some sites appeal to only some tastes. Just like the Spyro fans flock to this message board and to the Roleplaying site, people who choose to let off steam by mocking others (be it in a mean way or in a somewhat light-hearted way. I prefer mocking the FICS and not the authors.).

Sure, it's mean. Sure, it's not for most people. But it's entertainment. As long as they don't spam the authors involved, they're not really hurting anybody. The fanart section? If anything, they're giving the DA accounts more pageviews.

Or maybe I'm just a cold insensitive jerk on the inside. I grew up on Mystery Science Theater 3000; it's just something I find...funny. Like the Darwin Awards and Somethingawful...

I'm a very sensitive person...and I just think there's probably a lot of other sensitive people out there that would take offense to it. If someone posted a link to something I made and talked about how stupid my likes, dislikes, artwork, etc. was I wouldn't take it very well, to say the least!

I don't really know what to say, except...

A) Don't do stuff that would be considered being put on GA. Easy to do.
B) Develop a thick skin/sense of humor. Nearly died laughing when someone MSTed my story, and it'd be nice if others did the same.
C) Remember that this is the Internet and that what goes on here does not effect real life.
D) Don't throw an e-fit if you do get featured on GA. That will only make them mock you even more because, well, you're taking something on the Internet seriously.

That's my ideas, anyway.

Oh, God. Godawful.net I can stand, but not Crushyiffdestroy.

But maybe it's because Godawful is actually funny while Crushyiffdestroy is just mean. Gee, they're not saying anything funny! They're just...trashing it. At least on Godawful you have MSTs. >_>

I agree, the things they said were extremely mean.

What is stuff that would be considered being put on GA? Anything in my gallery now? (I hope not!)

Another thing I'm worried about is getting flamed for drawing dinosaurs that aren't 100% accurate and fully feathered...since there's a group of people out there now that insist that pretty much all meat eating dinosaurs were fully feathered. I think some were, but not all of them...

Your stuff? Puh-shaw. Nobody would put your stuff up there if they didn't put more or less ALL of the rest of ours up there first.

Yeah their jackasses but I can laugh at them because I know in my gut none of them in Crush Yiff Destroy could do better at the type of art I do

Well, I did draw a few weird characters sometimes...although most of those drawings I took down...even though everyone said they were good...
Like those anthro raptors I drew. Those are probably weird to some people!
