So the news fader isn't PERMANENTLY clogged with a million FAs, I'll let anyone who has an FA forum post it here.

Just... please, lay back on making them. It's overwhelming.

Heheh, yeah, FA forums are multipling - THEY'LL SQUISH US ALL... RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!

Ahem, yes...

On a more serious note, I understand what you mean, TTE - we've gone from SFA, to CFA/CBFA, to RCFA, JDFA, SCFA and more recently TFA, CFA/COFA & BJFA.
Wowzers!

I think (maybe) the tide is starting to slow, but still, 8+ forums is a lot. And several of them (mine included - infact, it's the worst offender) have very few posts.

I DO know why there's been such an explosion of FA forums, and it's because people are so excited about the idea of:
a) Being an 'important' part of a larger community
b) Having the rank of Admin (this is only true for evil people)
c) Being able to shape and control a website and having people look up to you.
d) And simply due to the overall "fun factor" of the experience

However, the burst of excitement often lasts a week or two, then dies down - I know this from first-hand experience.

I guess, though, the up-side is that you are the instigator of several happy communities all tugging on your shirt - I think this would make me happy too... I think...

Anyway...
This is probably a lousy time to bring this up, but I know that, about a month ago, you were considering the creation of a "Master Forums"

Now, I'm not talking so much about "Master Forums" as a "Master WEBSITE" here, but, *deep breath*, I would feel truly priviliged and greatly honoured if I could program and set up a "Master FA Website" for you.

I have only thought about the possibility of such a website for a short while, but I kinda like the idea. It would probably have redirections to each of the FA Forums, a brief bit of info about each and the fandom to which they belong, the contact details (basically emails) of each forum's staff, and really anything else you want (eg. consolidated web-page/deviantart page listing of every FA member, even maybe the ability for every FA member from any forum to have there own bio, etc. etc. etc.)

Anyway, I'll let you think about it. I should tell you that I'm no programming wiz, and don't know all that much html, but I REALLY enjoy programming and am learning both html (on my own) and C++ (within a programming course I'm doing at school.)

Aww, gawsh, I'm getting embarrassed about putting this forward, but I'm really excited about the idea and I felt that I should just say it anyway.

So, um, I'll leave you to chew it over then, eh?

Get back to me soonish, if you can - I'm bitting my nails here!

My site was a supposed 'master FA' - general, but it's getting enough people to actually keep it going (poor Fenrina Alliance... it died down, and only two regulars even post there recently)

I'd say that we get the Master Admins of the rest of the FA forums, then bring them in on the Master FA.

I thought of it earlier too... but I figured we wouldn't need one really... yet. Soon, though... Yes. We will.

I'll help with it, of course...

Dang right you will. tongue
You're the most important guy in all the FAs! You, our creator, will need to design (within reason) and administrate the site. After all, a tribute to the FAs is a tribute to you, TTE.

Anyway...

Let's think for a moment about the logistics (is that the right word?) of the Master site.

Firstly, we'll need a domain and host. Now, we could buy both of them, but that's expensive. I can't see while the site cannot be free, so I'll look into getting us a good free web host. Forn the mean time, however, I've just created a free hosting account at 111mb.com - not really good enough to stay on permanently, but it should do for the time being. (It's at fansanon.111mb.com)

Secondly, before any coding happens, we'll need a rough blue print (pictorial or otherwise) of what we want. I say we get a lot of the members from the SFA (and other FAs, too, but mostly the SFA, as it seems to be the present "Master Forum") and have them put forward some rough ideas, maybe even vote on it?
At any rate, I feel the people need a say as to the Master Forum.

Thirdly, we'll need a development team - a group who will work on the site and who all know the site's passwords etc. (in particular the FTP details)
As to the formation of this group, I'll leave the details to you, TTE.

Yeah, I've temporarily stuck a page on the site that simply tells the user that the site's "Under Construction" and then lists links to the 9 FAs that I know of. (The site on the page is titled "Fans Anonymous Central", but we can always change that.)

To jump straight into discussing matters, I was wondering if you think the site will ever need a forum. If so, we have two options:
1 - Make another conforum and link to it.
2 - Be bold and different and use an independent, open source forum and upload it to the site itself.
Personally, I'd like to go for option 2. I know it's a deviation, but (as you may or, more likely, may not have noticed) I'm rebuilding Sly Cooper FA using an open source board called SMF (See the SMF website at simplemachines.org) (AND see the new SCFA at slycfa.111mb.com - Note that it's Under Construction!)
As far I can see, SMF is a more powerful forum platform than CF, and more flexible (albeit slightly harder to modify)
I'll let you evaluate SMF for yourself, though, TTE - I'll give you an Admin account at the new SCFA if you supply me with your wanted Username (I have to make the account manually as Sign-ups are currently disabled)

Err... I can't think of any other matters to discuss right now, but, everyone, feel free to put 'em forward!

Hm... Well, there's a whole bunch of stuff... I dunno. Personally, I'm used to Conforums, and I like how it's running... though I'd like to customize a few more things... maybe have a sliding colorbar of stuff here instead of the "enter hexadecimal code" thing we have... but anway...

Definitely a master FA forum would be good, with the different categories being the different FAs. Then there could be discussion of it... all that. And the administrators of each little section representing the FA could be the forum's mods. Like for the SFA section we'd have the current SFAdmins.

We REALLY need some sort of meeting... Obviously I won't be the only SFAdmin... I'd have to have my little council help me... They'd be into it, right guys?

'Course we'all help you!
Hold it! I don't think I'm a part of that 'council', am I.huh huh huh tongue rolleyes
Heh, d'un worry about it.

Hmm... getting some sort of meeting in real-time would be difficult, if not nigh-on impossible, due to time zone differences (I'm sure most of you would be okay, but poor little me would get left out! sad )

As for a "slidng colour bar", I don't think that would be an option in SMF, either. Infact, changing the background colours requires modifying the .css file. HOWEVER, it's not as hard as it sounds - just look at my slycfa.111mb.com (admittedly I have no artistic taste, but it was at least EASY to make the forum look like dark blue porridge tongue)

I've uploaded the forum software to the fansanon.111mb.com site, but I'll refrain from installing it just yet.

And, um, TTE, I think I'll PM you the passwords to the site.
If you don't already have one, you should get an FTP client. I'm not sure of the best free one, but you should be able to google up some results (or yahoo, or altavista, or... whatever).

Yes, there are indeed a lot of FAs. Too many. A lot struggle to get off the ground (I know from experience).

To anyone wishing to start an "FA", please realize that there really needs to be a demand for a board on the topic you plan to "FAificate" and that everyone interested in such a board knows that it exists.

Furthermore, just because it's branded with a "Fans Anonymous" does not meen that the forum can be supported by the SFA or any of the other FAs. They share a name, share links, even share a few members... but that's it.

Don't worry about him, he's just a moron who thinks he's above the rules.

And I do hope that's the last time I EVER have to say that about an SFAer here on the forum.

*cough* ANYWAY. On to the other FA forums...
